Rafael Montejo Rapino

Rafael joined Ontier’s Litigation and Arbitration team in 2023, after having worked in the Litigation and Arbitration team of other international law firms.

He specializes in judicial and arbitration disputes, both national and international, in Spanish and English, representing clients in complex and high value matters in different sectors such as energy, construction and infrastructure, and insurance. Rafael regularly advises on international arbitration proceedings before institutions such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the Madrid International Arbitration Center (CIAM), among others. Rafael also advises clients in pre-litigation negotiations in multi-jurisdictional disputes.

He holds a law degree from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) and a Master’s Degree in Corporate and M&A from the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía (ISDE) in Madrid, and is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.

Highlights of the work

Advising in an arbitration before the ICC, in English, related to a multi-million dollar claim in the context of the largest infrastructure project developed by Spanish companies.

Representation of an insurance company in a coverage claim arising out of a multi-million dollar incident at liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants located at ports in China and Qatar.

Representation of a listed energy trading company in an ICC arbitration in English in a multi-million dollar claim against more than two dozen energy production companies.
