Sport is much more than physical activity or competition. It is health, economy, tourism, social cohesion, employment and territorial development. However, what real weight does it have in the public policies of Asturias?
The Asturian Sports Industry Cluster and Ontier have prepared this strategic report to rigorously analyze the position of sport within the General Budgets of the Principality of Asturias for 2026, evaluating its economic dimension, its expenditure structure and its role within the regional development model.
The analysis reveals a significant fact: sport represents approximately 0.28% of the regional budget, a figure that allows sustaining the current sports system, but which contrasts with the enormous potential of the sector to generate impact in key areas such as public health, sports tourism, skilled employment or business innovation. This figure does not reflect a structural commitment to sport, but rather the concentration of spending on infrastructure and maintenance.
